The concept of sustainability is composed of three pillars: the economy, the environment, and the society. Sustainability is defined as being eco-friendly through which not only our precious environment is protected but also the needs of the present as well as future generations are uncompromisingly met.
We carefully and responsibly select the materials that we use to create every product. It is our goal to promote a clean world today and a cleaner world tomorrow through the manufacturing of extraordinary and durable goods. Every year, textile waste causes significant impact to the environment, due to disposing of poorly made garment. According to an article published by The World Economic Forum, The equivalent of one garbage truck full of clothes is burned or dumped in a landfill every second. At MAFIA, we design and manufacture garments that are both timeless and long-lasting. Our objective is for you to keep what we produce as part of your wardrobe for many years to come. We are confident that together we can contribute to the reduction of textile waste, while we continue to promote a clean environment.
Each piece of clothing made by us is crafted from the highest quality and most natural materials available in the planet today. An estimated 60% of garments made worldwide are manufactured with synthetic fabrics. Waste produced by synthetic fibers such as polyester, rayon, nylon, and lyocell is very harmful to the environment. When burnt, they produce poisonous gases, and when landfilled, they take a long time to decompose because they are non-biodegradable. A 2017 report from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) estimated that 35% of all microplastics in the ocean — which are very small pieces of plastic that never biodegrade — came from the laundering of synthetic textiles. Washing clothes that are made with synthetic fabrics, releases about 500,000 tons of microfibers into the ocean each year; this is equivalent of 50 billion plastic bottles. Overall, microplastics are estimated to compose over 30% of plastic pollution in the ocean.
Every one of our designs and garments is crafted in the U.S., and we partner with manufacturers and suppliers who are devoted to a high degree of ethical conduct as well as social & environmental responsibility. When products are made in the U.S., vendors and suppliers are audited by local or Federal agencies to ensure that they are in compliance with local labor laws which include wages. In addition, we reserve the right to conduct random inspections of our vendor’s manufacturing facilities to ensure that they provide their workers with a healthy environment and equal opportunities for all.
We are proud to add to each of our goods the mark “Made in USA”. To us, this represents quality, excellent craftsmanship and jobs for our communities. Creating demand for American-made products means that more people will need to create those goods. By growing the manufacturing sector, more jobs are created that in turn will bring money back into the economy. This is a fundamental principle in which we all believe.
